An ingredient list is useful, but it cannot tell you everything about a product. Concentration, stability, delivery system, and the overall balance of a formula all affect performance.
Start with the product’s purpose
A cleanser, treatment, and moisturizer should be judged differently. We first ask whether the formula includes the right types of ingredients for the job it claims to do.
Look beyond a single hero ingredient
Supporting ingredients can improve comfort, texture, and stability. Humectants, emollients, antioxidants, and soothing agents often work best as a team.
Patch testing is still useful
Even a carefully formulated product may not suit every person. Test new products gradually, especially if your skin is reactive or you already use prescription treatments.
